In 2024-2028, Candra Wijaya Hopes Badminton Continues to Score Achievements

Jakarta, 28 December 2021 – The Olympic 2000 gold medalist, Rafael Candra Wijaya or who is familiarly called Candra Wijaya hopes that, in 2024-2028, Indonesia will not reduce its speed in producing the next generation of reliable badminton. New seeds of outstanding badminton are needed so that the sports world remains passionate about making achievements.

Having athletes who excel is a blessing for Indonesia. It is hoped that this achievement will continue because these achievements were achieved by young players, starting from Anthony Ginting, Jonatan Christie (Jojo), Greysia Polii, Marcus Gideon to Kevin Sanjaya.

“They have sacrificed since childhood (training). It's not easy to find players like them. It must be seen that their successors will continue the baton that has been given," said Candra yesterday.

Therefore, as one of the best men's doubles players Indonesia has ever had, Candra appreciates the support of PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (BNI) as the main official sponsor of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI). What is being done is continuity in making the country proud with badminton.

Candra explained, this support needs to be done by many other parties. Because, the sustainable development of prospective athletes is the most important thing to always bring the badminton industry consistently to make world-class achievements.

"As a former athlete and now a coach, I appreciate BNI's support for national badminton to the fullest and the energy is enormous. It is hoped that there will be many other supports and synergies that are equally extraordinary," he said.

As is known, between BNI and PBSI agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) containing a support commitment that will last for four (4) years, namely from 2021-2025.

Therefore, a solid support system is needed from the Government, Banking and other institutions to support in maintaining the golden tradition of the Indonesian Olympics that has been achieved. “The badminton industry itself is already a target. Badminton as a sport of national pride is expected to continue to excel. So as not to lose the moments and history of past glory because the competition in the badminton industry in the world is now getting tougher," he said.

"Hopefully BNI, the Government and others support Badminton to give national pride so that the players can all-out devote their energy and achievements, especially how about continuous coaching for juniors and below in order to maintain technical and mental motivation. BNI's support is very large because there are several championships until the end of the year. Hopefully it won't disappear for the next generation to rely on," he added.
