BNI Supports the Construction and Operation of PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero)'s 500 MW Geothermal Energy Plant

(16/10/2025) - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI strengthens its commitment to the development of new and renewable energy (EBT) in Indonesia by providing credit facilities and trade facilities for PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero). This support is focused on financing the construction of a Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) project and supporting the company's operational activities.

This strategic collaboration was formalized through the signing of an agreement entitled ‘Commitment on Green Project and Operation Financing for 500MW Geothermal Energy Development of PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero)’ between BNI Wholesale Solutions & Value Chain SEVP Pancaran Affendi and PT Geo Dipa President Director Energi Yudistian Yunis.

The signing took place on the sidelines of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (IISF) 2025 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) on Friday (10/10/2025).

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo emphasized that this support is a manifestation of BNI's commitment to accelerating the transition to clean energy and realizing a green economy in Indonesia.

“This financing is a tangible manifestation of BNI's support for the development of national green energy projects, as well as an effort to accelerate the transition to clean energy in Indonesia,” Okki said in a written statement.

Okki further explained that this synergy is a strategic step in strengthening national energy security based on environmentally friendly resources. This collaboration also reinforces BNI's position as a pioneer in national banking, actively promoting the implementation of sustainable finance.

“The synergy with Geo Dipa strengthens BNI's position as a major player in green financing and supports the national agenda towards a sustainable energy future,” he added.

As one of the state-owned enterprises (SOEs) engaged in geothermal energy, PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero) manages the Dieng and Patuha geothermal power plant projects, two national strategic projects that are an important part of geothermal energy development in Indonesia. Currently, the installed capacity reaches 120 MW, with plans for expansion to 500 MW.

Geothermal energy has a major advantage in that it is environmentally friendly and free from high carbon emissions. According to data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), geothermal power plants only produce 45–80 grams of CO per kWh, which is much lower than coal-fired power plants, which produce 900–1,000 grams of CO per kWh.

Furthermore, a geothermal power plant can operate 24 hours a day, year-round, making it a reliable and efficient baseload energy source. Geothermal energy sources are also widespread across Indonesia, offering significant potential to reduce dependence on energy imports and strengthen national energy independence.

“BNI is committed to continuing to support clean energy projects that provide economic benefits while preserving the environment. We hope that this collaboration can serve as a concrete example of cooperation between the financial and energy sectors in realizing a sustainable future,” Okki concluded.

Through its support for Geo Dipa Energi, BNI affirms its role as a strategic partner of the government in accelerating the development of national green energy, while strengthening the sustainable financial ecosystem in Indonesia towards a low-carbon economy.
