Raymond/Joaquin's Impressive Debut at the Indonesia Masters 2026

The badminton pair Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin won the runner-up title in the men's doubles at the Indonesia Masters 2026, held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on January 20-26, 2026. This achievement complements the brilliant record of young Indonesian athletes who are fully supported by PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo believes that Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin's achievement at the Indonesia Masters 2026 is inseparable from a well-developed coaching ecosystem, ranging from early age training, tiered competitions, to support from various parties in creating a space for young athletes to grow.

“This achievement is important capital for young athletes to continue improving their game and readiness to compete at the world level,” Okki said in a written statement.

BNI's support is present in this historic moment for Raymond/Joaquin, who just made their debut at the Indonesia Masters 2026 and immediately achieved a proud accomplishment at this world-class tournament held in their home country.

Nikolaus Joaquin, fondly known as Joaquin, was born in Jakarta on September 14, 2005, and is now 20 years old. He started playing badminton at the age of six, idolizing Fajar Alfian as his inspiration. Joaquin officially joined the PBSI National Training Center in 2025 after previously partnering with several players, including Muhammad Al Farizi and Verrel Yustin Mulia.

Meanwhile, Raymond Indra was born in Bandung 21 years ago. He joined the PBSI National Training Center in 2025 and is known as a talented player with stable game control and tight defense. His young career began at a local badminton club when he was in elementary school before finally reaching the national level and getting the opportunity to compete in various international tournaments.

Since pairing up, Raymond/Joaquin have shown significant progress. In addition to defending their BWF Indonesia Masters Super 100 title in 2025, last year the pair also finished as runners-up at the Korea Masters 2025 and champions at the Australia Open 2025. They are known for their solid defense, which often makes it difficult for their opponents to develop their attacking patterns.

This combination of performances has led Raymond/Joaquin to be dubbed the successors to Kevin Sanjaya/Marcus Gideon. In addition to having been trained by the same coach, Chafidz Yusuf, both are also known for their aggressive and fast playing style, a characteristic of Indonesia's world-class men's doubles pairs.

Okki added that BNI has been a partner of PBSI for more than five years and has consistently contributed to supporting the development and regeneration of athletes in various age groups, including strengthening the national training program, which is the foundation for the birth of world-class athletes.

“We hope this achievement can inspire other young athletes to continue to develop and represent Indonesia on the international stage,” added Okki.

Through this ongoing support, BNI continues to strengthen its commitment to nurturing a new generation that is ready to maintain Indonesia's position as one of the world's leading badminton powers.
