PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI is helping to accelerate the social recovery of communities affected by flash floods in West Sumatra by cleaning up mud and flood debris at the Darul Aman Mosque, Jorong Toboh, Nagari Malalak, Agam Regency. This step is being taken to ensure that worship facilities can once again be used safely and comfortably by residents.
The cleanup is part of post-disaster recovery efforts focused on public facilities that are strategically important to the social and religious life of the community. The Darul Aman Mosque had been affected by flash floods that carried mud and debris into the main area of the building, disrupting worship activities and social activities of local residents.
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said that restoring places of worship is a top priority because mosques play an important role as centers of religious activity and social spaces for the community.
“Through this activity, BNI hopes to help the community resume their worship and social activities safely and comfortably, while accelerating the post-disaster recovery process,” Okki said in a written statement.
In its implementation, BNI collaborates with the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Big Family through the SOE Care program entitled One Heart for Sumatra under the coordination of Danantara Indonesia. A number of facilities and resources are deployed to support the cleanup process so that it runs effectively and in a coordinated manner.
Okki added that these activities are part of BNI's Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, which is carried out continuously according to needs in the field. This program not only includes initial cleaning, but also covers the possibility of renovating facilities and repairing worship facilities if necessary.
“We hope that this support can help recreate a safe and comfortable environment, including in terms of worship needs, so that the community can return to normal activities,” he said.
Through synergy with various stakeholders, BNI affirms its commitment to continue playing an active role in disaster management and supporting the social recovery of affected communities. These efforts are expected to accelerate the recovery process for residents and strengthen social resilience in post-disaster areas.
