BNI Commemorates National Waste Day by Hosting Cleanup Act

Jakarta, February 21, 2016 - In accordance to PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI)’s commitment to Green Banking, BNI supported efforts to increase public awareness of environmental conservation through waste cleanup activities around the house and public areas on National Waste Care Day, which falls on Sunday, February 21 2016. BNI provided support for three simultaneous programs: National #Cleans Up Program or BERGERAK for #IndonesiaBebasSampah2020 initiated by Yayasan Pelita Cakrawala Inspirasi; Program Kegiatan Bersih - Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park Cleanup in Cibodas Cianjur, West Java led by Scout Leader Saka Wanabakti National; and Paper Recycling Program conducted jointly by BNI and Yayasan Nara Kreatif.

BNI Corporate Secretary Peter Suhardi commented on the event in Jakarta, Sunday (February 21, 2016) during BNI commemoration of National Waste Day. BNI dispatched about 100 staff to participate in the BERGERAK Program For #IndonesiaBebasSampah2020 to pick up trash around Sudirman area up to Bundaran Hotel Indonesia, Jakarta. According to Peter, BNI’s support for three communities concerned with waste is aligned with BNI’s mission to increase awareness and responsibility towards the environment and the community.

At the National #CleanUp action or BERGERAK For #IndonesiaBebasSampah2020, BNI supports Yayasan Pelita Cakrawala Inspirasi that sought to draw in public awareness of waste through an app mapping Indonesia’s waste distribution.

The Boy Scouts and BNI joint program volunteered to collect, sort, and clean trash pile ups end angering mountain tourism areas in Indonesia. The program aimed to alleviate the heavy buildup of plastic waste, iron, and Styrofoam around the mountain areas that pose extremely danger to the natural ecosystem during the event from February 18 to February 21, 2016.

Meanwhile, Yayasan Nara Kreatif and BNI collaboration focused on collecting waste paper, involving employees from all BNI Divisions and directing them to three (3) areas: BNI Headquarter, Wisma 46, and BNI Landmark Building in Jakarta. The event invited the public to donate papers, newspapers, card boards, books, and magazines to be processed into valuable products, such as notebooks, paper bags,or packaging for reuse by BNI. The event will take place on February 18-19 2016 at BNI Headquarter.

“We hope that by raising awareness on National Waste Day, BNI can help contribute to creating a clean atmosphere as well as beautiful and comfortable environment, especially in areas of major activities, such as Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park Cibodas Cianjur, West Java, Bundaran Hotel Indonesia, and eventually, the whole of Indonesia,” Peter concluded.
