Six Asian Games 2026 Medals Will Boost Indonesian Badminton Development

Six Asian Games 2026 Medals Will Boost Indonesian Badminton Development

The six medals secured by the Indonesian badminton team at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 represent an important milestone in assessing the results of the training programs and collective efforts that continue to be strengthened to maintain the competitiveness of Indonesian badminton.

The "Merah Putih" team brought home two gold medals, one silver, and three bronze medals across both team and individual events. This achievement not only reflects the athletes' performance in the arena but also highlights the importance of the extensive process involving coaches, support teams, the federation, the government, strategic partners, and the entire Indonesian badminton ecosystem.

This was stated by the Chairman of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI), Muhammad Fadil Imran, during a thanksgiving and appreciation event for the Indonesian badminton team regarding their achievements at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, held at the PBSI National Training Center in Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Wednesday (7/10/2026).

Fadil stated that the success of bringing home six medals was the result of the collective effort of everyone involved in the athletes' journey.

According to him, achievements stem not only from athletes standing on the podium but also from the contributions of technical and physical coaches, performance and sports science teams, medical personnel, psychologists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, and video analysts, as well as the entire PBSI national training center staff who ensure the development process runs consistently.

"What we are celebrating is not just the six medals, but the struggle and hard work of everyone behind them. There is still unfinished business, as we have a long journey ahead," said Fadil.

Fadil emphasized that the Asian Games 2026 is not the ultimate goal of Indonesian badminton development. PBSI still has a major agenda to continuously improve athlete quality and prepare the team for various upcoming international competitions.

"Since we still have a long journey ahead, the Asian Games are not the final destination. We have prepared major targets leading up to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics," he said.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo stated that the achievements of the Indonesian badminton team demonstrate the importance of maintaining the continuity of talent development and collaboration among various parties.

"Achievement like this is the result of a long process. Therefore, BNI views consistent development, the quality of support teams, and competitive opportunities as vital elements in sustaining Indonesia's badminton success," said Okki.

As a strategic partner of PBSI for over five years, BNI supports the development of national badminton, ranging from the nurturing of young athletes to the elite level, as well as providing opportunities to compete in national and international tournaments.

Throughout 2026, the support provided by BNI in partnership with PBSI will be reflected in, among other things, athlete development and Indonesia's participation in various international competitions, including the Indonesia Masters, Badminton Asia Championships, Indonesia Open, Thailand Open, and Badminton Asia Junior Championships.

According to Okki, long-term collaboration is crucial because sporting achievements cannot be built overnight.

"For BNI, support for PBSI is more than just sponsorship. We want to help sustain the development process so that Indonesian athletes have the space to grow, gain competitive experience, and continuously improve their skills to compete at the international level," said Okki.

As a state-owned enterprise within Indonesia's Danantara ecosystem, BNI continues to support the development of exceptional and competitive Indonesian human resources, including through contributions to the advancement of national sports.

As it enters its 80th year, driven by the spirit of Swadharma Bhakti Nagara, BNI will continue to strengthen collaborations that foster Indonesian achievements and talent across various fields.
