Solid and Healthy Performance: BNI Records Highest-Ever Third-Quarter Operating Profit Before Provisions, Reaching IDR 27.5 Trillion

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, recorded a pre-provision operating profit (PPOP) of IDR 27.5 trillion through the third quarter of 2026, representing an 11.6% year-on-year (YoY) increase. This figure marks the highest third-quarter result in BNI’s history, reflecting the company’s fundamental resilience amidst global economic dynamics and margin pressures within the banking industry.

This performance was supported by 22.2% year-on-year (YoY) loan growth, reaching IDR 992.5 trillion, with distribution spread evenly across all segments. Low-cost funds—or current account savings accounts (CASA)—also grew by 19.6% YoY to IDR 733.7 trillion, while the gross non-performing loan (NPL) ratio improved to 1.9%.

Amidst global economic dynamics, Bank Indonesia (BI) continues to strengthen its policies to maintain financial system stability and support economic growth. During its Board of Governors Meeting on October 20–21, 2026, BI maintained the BI-Rate at 5.75% and decided to implement a gradual reduction in the Statutory Reserve Requirement (SRR), effective from November 2026. These measures are expected to bolster banking liquidity and support the extension of credit to productive sectors.

BNI President Director Putrama Wahju Setyawan stated that this achievement reflects the company's consistency in maintaining high-quality business growth through the strengthening of its fundamentals and risk management.

"In the midst of challenging market dynamics, BNI continues to maintain growth momentum by prioritizing the principles of prudence and discipline in risk management. Our focus is on strengthening fundamentals and productivity to create quality and sustainable growth," said Putrama in a written statement.

BNI’s net interest income (NII) grew by 13.6% year-on-year (YoY) to IDR 33.2 trillion, while fee-based income increased by 8.3% YoY to IDR 13.9 trillion. Despite margin pressures and the need for adequate provisioning, BNI still managed to record a 6.6% YoY growth in net profit, reaching IDR 16.1 trillion.

Digitization and Strengthening of Funding

The development of digital services and the branch network continue to support BNI’s business growth. As of September 2026, the number of wondr by BNI users reached 16.6 million—a 58% year-on-year (YoY) increase—with a transaction value of IDR 1,774 trillion, up 25% YoY. Meanwhile, BNIdirect recorded a transaction value of IDR 9,324 trillion, growing 16% YoY, with the number of users reaching 293 thousand—an increase of 19% YoY.

The strengthening of these services is supported by a network transformation through the BRAVE (Branch, Region & Area Value Empowerment) initiative, aimed at enhancing branch productivity, transaction activity, and the mobilization of low-cost funds.

“The integration of digital services and the branch network enables BNI to expand its service reach, increase transaction volumes, and strengthen relationships with customers across various segments,” added Putrama.

High-Quality Loans and Maintained Asset Quality

BNI Finance & Strategy Director Hussein Paolo Kartadjoemena, explained that credit expansion is being carried out selectively across all segments, through the application of disciplined credit underwriting standards. This strategy has driven an increase in BNI’s credit market share by 113 basis points (bps) year-on-year (YoY) to 10.6%.

From the funding side, strengthening transaction banking services through BNIdirect and wondr by BNI also encouraged CASA growth of 19.6% YoY to IDR 733.7 trillion. Until September 2026, BNI current accounts grew 25.9% YoY, surpassing industry growth of 9.8% based on August 2026 data. The current account market share increased 120 bps to 13.2%, while the savings market share rose 10 bps to 9.2%, supported by BNI savings growth of 11.6% YoY.

Amidst industry-wide margin pressure, BNI’s net interest margin (NIM) declined by 30 bps to 3.5%, consistent with the broader industry trend. This decrease was primarily driven by an adjustment in loan yield, which fell from 7.3% to 6.9%. Meanwhile, the cost of funds (CoF) remained relatively well-contained, shifting from 2.83% to 2.77%, supported by strong growth in CASA (current and savings accounts).

"Selective credit growth and the strengthening of low-cost funds are key to maintaining a balance between business expansion and profitability. We continue to optimize our funding structure to ensure that growth remains healthy and sustainable," said Paolo.

BNI Risk Management Director David Pirzada, added that asset quality continues to improve, as reflected in the decline of the loan-at-risk (LaR) ratio from 10.4% to 7.8% and the gross non-performing loan (NPL) ratio from 2.0% to 1.9%.

As part of the implementation of the precautionary principle, BNI maintains a total loan-loss provisioning ratio of 3.8%, which is higher than the industry average of 3.5%. Meanwhile, the NPL coverage ratio stands at 193.3%, reflecting sufficient provisioning to anticipate potential risks.

"Risk management is carried out from the stage of defining priority sectors and analyzing borrower feasibility, all the way to post-disbursement monitoring—supported by an early warning system that is continuously being strengthened," said David.

A Strong Foundation for Sustainable Growth

BNI possesses a strong liquidity and capital foundation to sustain business growth. This is reflected in a loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR) of 87.9%, a liquidity coverage ratio (LCR) of 143.4%, and a net stable funding ratio (NSFR) of 128.4%. Meanwhile, the capital adequacy ratio (CAR) stands at 19.2%—well above the regulatory minimum—providing the company with the capacity to support business expansion while simultaneously anticipating potential risks.

The strengthening of BNI’s fundamentals and its business transformation are also aligned with the transformation agenda for State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) under the coordination of Danantara Indonesia—an initiative aimed at enhancing productivity and competitiveness, while creating long-term value for both the company and the national economy.

By strengthening its core business, developing digital services, and implementing good corporate governance, BNI continues to strive to increase its contribution in supporting financing for the productive sector and national development. This step is also part of the company's efforts to create healthy and sustainable growth.

Entering the fourth quarter of 2026, BNI will continue to strengthen transaction-based funding, pursue selective loan growth, maintain disciplined risk management, and advance the digital and network transformation—all to support financing for productive sectors and foster sustainable national economic growth.
