Thomas dan Uber Cup 2020, BNI Behind the Indonesian Team’s Victory

Jakarta, 10 October 2021 -- Thomas and Uber Cup 2020 has been running with Team Thomas and Uber Indonesia winning in their inaugural match in Denmark, Saturday and Sunday (9-10 October 2021). PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI was behind the victory of the Thomas and Uber Indonesia Cup squads, which are expected to be able to bring the long-awaited two trophies to Indonesia. This state-owned bank ensures that Indonesia is present in the most prestigious and historical team badminton competition.

BNI’s President Director, Royke Tumilaar in Jakarta, Sunday, (10 October 2021) said, Indonesia has a proud history of making achievements in the Thomas and Uber Cup competitions. For this reason, BNI will always provide support and enthusiasm for Indonesian youths who compete in the Thomas & Uber Cup events. 

"On this occasion, we believe that the Thomas & Uber Cup Indonesia Team is ready to give their best to bring the Thomas & Uber Trophy back to the country. Good luck, Indonesia can do it! Indonesia Champion!” he said. In its inaugural match, Sunday morning of Western Indonesian Time Zone, Team Thomas stopped Team Algeria with a fast and perfect time, 5 – 0. Team Thomas Indonesia consisted of Jonatan Christie, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, then the pair Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan, and the pair Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Martin. 

The Indonesian Uber Team defeated the German Team with a near perfect score, 4 - 1, on Saturday, of Western Indonesian Time Zone, in the preliminary round. Uber Indonesia team relies on Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Putri Kusuma Wardani, Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo. Then in the doubles, Indonesia fielded its best pairs, Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu as the spearheads and the pair of Ribka Sugiarto and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti. 

After supporting the badminton Gold Medal winners at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, BNI also led the athletes to compete in the Sudirman Cup competition in the city of Vantaa-Finland, 26 September – 3 October 2021. BNI provides complete support in developing the achievements of national badminton so that they continue to consistently excel in the international arena.
BNI's support for badminton is driven by the record of achievements in this sport which often makes Indonesia proud in the world, so it is necessary to ensure the regeneration of athletes at all times. This support is collaborated between BNI and the Central Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) for the next 4 years, starting from 2021 to 2024.

As previously emphasized by the SOE Minister, Erick Thohir, BNI's seriousness in being the main sponsor of national badminton is in line with the vision and mission of the badminton sport to always try to make the name of the Indonesian nation proud in every world competition. Badminton's international mission is in line with the mandate assigned to BNI to become a National Bank with Global Standards or a leading Financial Institution in the future. 

Until the end of 2021, BNI is committed to supporting the Indonesian badminton team in a series of international tournaments, namely the Sudirman Cup. Second, Thomas & Uber Cup in Aahrust Denmark on 9-17 October 2021. Third, Indonesia Open in Nusa Dua Bali.
