PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI recorded positive performance growth in the remittance business with a transaction volume of more than USD31 million or grew 13.15% on an annual basis (YoY). This increase was supported by the strengthening of the service ecosystem and the implementation of BNI's strategy in strengthening its role as the main financial partner of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said, this achievement is the result of a sustainable strategy in building an inclusive and comprehensive remittance service ecosystem.
“BNI continues to provide financial solutions for personal and corporate customers, especially Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI), which is a key segment in this business,” Okki said in a written statement.
Countries such as Taiwan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and South Korea are listed as the main sources of remittances. In these regions, BNI's customers are quite diverse ranging from informal sector workers such as domestic assistants, factory workers, and drivers, in the service sector such as hotels and hospitals, to professionals in strategic sectors such as oil and aviation.
Meanwhile, the largest remittance receiving regions in Indonesia are Bali, Jakarta, Bekasi, East Java, and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The high volume of remittances going to these regions reflects the strong connectivity between migrant workers abroad and their families back home.
“BNI utilizes this opportunity to expand the reach of financial services to remote areas,” continued Okki.
As a form of strengthening services, BNI continues to establish partnerships with correspondent banks, fintech and global payment service providers. In several countries, BNI has integrated instant payment systems and local clearing to speed up the transaction process. In addition, BNI also actively encourages the economic empowerment of PMI through financial literacy, business training, and banking education.
“With this approach, BNI is committed to making remittances not only a financial service, but also a means of long-term welfare improvement,” Okki concluded.
The strength of BNI's overseas branch network in nine strategic locations of the world's financial centers, makes BNI is even closer to the Indonesian people wherever they are. This is also a tangible manifestation of BNI as a representation of Indonesia in the world which makes it a national bank with global capacity.
