Escaping Crisis and Welcoming Growth, BNI Boss Won 2 Awards

Jakarta, 15 December 2021 – The President Director of PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero), Tbk. (BNI), Royke Tumilaar won two awards for the Lifetime Achievement Award in Banking Industry from CNBC Indonesia and Top 100 CEO 2021 Infobank.

The challenges that arise from the mix of crises that have come repeatedly in the last 2 years are a tough test for everyone. Nevertheless, this series of crises became the Candradimuka Crater to test every company leader and find reliable and resilient CEOs.

The Covid-19 pandemic is a tremendous test for any company in the world. In Indonesia, the crisis that began to be felt in March 2020 tested the resilience of every citizen in sustaining life due to illness, as well as suppressing the economic resilience of most economic actors.

Now, the pandemic is starting to slow down. Of course it's right to cast your eyes all over the place to find out who survives, maybe even able to grow despite being hit by a prolonged crisis.

CNBC Indonesia and Infobank found that one of the companies that was able to survive and even grow during the crisis was PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI (Stock code: BBNI).

CNBC Indonesia noted that the President Director of BNI, Royke Tumilaar deserved to be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in Banking Industry. Meanwhile, Infobank appointed the President Director of BNI, Royke Tumilaar as one of the Top 100 CEO 2021 Infobank: Leading Trough Uncertainty 2022.*

The two awards were given to Royke Tumilaar in a ceremony held separately on Tuesday (14 December 2021) in Jakarta, by implementing strict Health Protocols.

Royke conveyed that several notes that made BNI worthy of receiving awards from the two institutions were reflected in the positive achievements of BNI's business performance during 2021.

The company's net profit until quarter 3 - 2021 grew 96.7% YoY, mainly supported by BNI's business engines in the form of Net Interest Income (NII) and Fee Based Income (FBI) which grew by 17.7% and 16.8% YoY, respectively.

If the NII is boosted by credit growth that is strengthening again, the FBI will also grow because during the pandemic, BNI has also accelerated digital transformation in all of its service lines.

Digital transformation is carried out to improve transactional banking capabilities, including collaborating with fintech and e-commerce.

This digital strengthening is carried out by digitizing the company's business platform, developing digital products, and strengthening the digital ecosystem with the API Open Banking.

"Currently, BNI is a bank that excels in developing API Open Banking with 283 types of services and has been used by 4,000 clients," said Royke Tumilaar.

As for moving faster in 2022, Royke continued that the company also successfully executed a capital strengthening strategy during 2021 with the issuance of Tier 2 Capital worth USD 500 million and Additional Tier 1 Capital Securities worth USD 600 million. This additional capital supports BNI's CAR accumulation until the 3rd quarter of 2021 alone by 19.9% or up 3.1% when compared to the end of the previous year.

"BNI will further strengthen service offerings to customers, for example through the establishment of BNI Sekuritas Singapore to support corporate business and launching the Xpora program to support MSME customers Go Global," he said.

These factors will strengthen BNI's fundamentals in 2021 and BNI is also ready to answer business challenges in 2022. 2022 will be a better year because society has gradually adapted to new normal conditions. BNI is ready to go hand in hand to grow together.
