First Quarter-2022, BNI Optimistic to Record 7% Credit Growth

JAKARTA, 12 April 2022 – The government's success in controlling Covid-19 cases has given rise to signals of economic recovery in a number of sectors. The restoration of various aspects of life in general has also gradually occurred.

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero), Tbk. or BNI (stock code : BBNI) in the first three months of this year is also optimistic that it can record good performance, with credit growth ranging from 6-7% on an annual basis (year on year / yoy). This growth is in line with the start of economic activity from a number of segments.

"Overall, in the first quarter of 2022, we are optimistic that credit growth will experience a positive trend in the range of 6% to 7%," said BNI’s Finance Director, Novita Widya Anggraini.

According to Novita, credit growth in the first quarter of this year is believed to be higher than credit at the end of 2021, which increased 5.4% (yoy). This means that there is an improvement trend in loan demand and distribution at BNI.

"The increase of around 6% to 7% was supported by various industrial sectors, including the manufacturing sector, the construction sector, as well as the recovery in the trade and transportation sectors due to the loosening of government policies related to Covid-19," said Novita.

Based on BNI's monthly financial reports, loans disbursed as of February 2022 amounted to Rp 575.49 trillion, an increase of 5.43% compared to loans as of February 2021 which amounted to Rp 545.86 trillion. Thus, there will be a higher credit growth acceleration per March 2022.

Improvements are also reflected in BNI's credit restructuring, which is increasingly sloping. As of March 2022, the remaining credit provided by the stimulus is Rp 69.63 trillion. This value decreased by Rp 2.5 trillion from the position at the end of 2021 which was Rp 72.13 trillion.

BNI’s Corporate Secretary, Mucharom added that BNI was not only able to record positive credit growth but also improved credit quality, which was mainly seen from the lower credit restructuring balance.

"Affected business players are starting to become more confident in their business performance prospects so that they can make installments like before the pandemic," he said.

The expansion carried out by BNI during the economic recovery period is getting more quality, so that the ratio of non-performing loans (NPL) is also getting lower. Last year, the company reported a decline in NPL of 60 basis points (bps) to 3.7 percent compared to the 2020 position of 4.3 percent. Meanwhile, the NPL as of March 2022 improved again to the level of 3.46%. (*)
