The rise of digital crime methods has prompted PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI to remind the public to be more vigilant about personal data protection. BNI emphasizes the importance of protecting three types of sensitive data, namely full name, active WhatsApp number, and account balance information.
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo explained that the three pieces of data often serve as an entry point for digital criminals to carry out social engineering actions. The modus operandi used by the perpetrators usually targets victims thru convincing messages that exploit the names of well-known financial institutions, including BNI.
“Customers need to protect three types of data that we refer to as sensitive data, namely full name, active WhatsApp number, and balance information. These three types of data are very vulnerable to being misused by irresponsible parties to carry out banking crimes," said Okki.
Okki added that the perpetrators generally build a narrative that seems official, such as offering prizes or promotional programs, to deceive the victims into providing personal data. In fact, it is not uncommon for the perpetrators to spread fake links using the name of BNI to obtain sensitive information from potential victims.
In facing this situation, BNI urges customers and the general public not to be easily tempted by instant prize offers, and to always verify the truth of the information before responding to parties claiming to represent the bank.
"We invite all customers to remain vigilant. Do not hesitate to confirm any information with BNI Call 1500046 or thru our official website. Better to be cautious than to become a victim," added Okki.
As a preventive measure, BNI also reminds customers to only access information thru official BNI channels, such as the official website and the wondr by BNI application, in order to obtain safe and reliable banking services.
For more information about BNI's programs and digital security tips, the public can visit bni.id/rejekiwondrbni or directly access the wondr by BNI application on their mobile devices.
With this preventive measure, BNI hopes that customers will become more intelligent and swifter in facing the various increasingly sophisticated digital fraud attempts.
