BNI: Temporary Blocking of Dormant Accounts by PPATK to Protect Customer Funds

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. or BNI supports the temporary blocking of inactive or dormant accounts. This step is considered important in order to protect customer funds.

BNI's President Director, Putrama Wahju Setyawan, stated that temporarily blocking dormant accounts is one of the preventive measures needed to avoid potential misuse of accounts by irresponsible parties.

"We consider the temporary blocking of dormant accounts by PPATK as a form of systemic protection and a proactive step against the potential misuse of inactive accounts. This is also in line with the principle of prudence in managing customer funds," said Putrama in his written statement.

According to Putrama, accounts that have been inactive for a long period are at risk of being used without the owner's knowledge. The temporary blocking of dormant accounts is a proactive measure for the security and comfort of customers.

Putrama also emphasized that customers need not worry about the temporary blocking of dormant accounts. BNI will facilitate the process of unblocking for customers who object, as long as the procedures set by PPATK are followed thoroughly.

"BNI will assist in channeling customer requests for unblocking to PPATK. Of course, this process must follow the applicable mechanisms, and we ensure that communication is conducted transparently and accountably," explained Putrama.

Maintaining Account Activity

On this occasion, Putrama also encourages customers to regularly conduct transactions to keep their accounts active. Simple activities such as fund deposits, transfers, or payments thru digital channels are enough to avoid a dormant status.

In addition, customers are also urged to periodically update their contact information such as phone numbers and email addresses. This is important so that customers continue to receive important notifications from the bank, including information regarding account status and other services.

"We remind customers to always monitor and manage their accounts. An active account will reduce the risk of misuse, while also ensuring comfort in transactions," concluded Putrama.
