PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI held the planting of 79,000 sea pine saplings at Tiris Beach, Indramayu, on Friday (8/8/2025), as part of the 79th anniversary celebration series. This action is a tangible manifestation of BNI's commitment to supporting environmental sustainability while also strengthening its active role in sustainable development.
This activity also involved various elements of society, ranging from local communities, students, to BNI employees. Present at the event were BNI Director Rian Eriana Kaslan and BNI Credit Risk SEVP Bun Hendra along with other management members.
"Tiris Beach has great potential as a tourist destination, but it is also very vulnerable to abrasion and coastal erosion. Therefore, this activity is not just an anniversary celebration, but a tangible expression of BNI's commitment to maintaining environmental sustainability," said Bun Hendra in his statement.
According to Bun Hendra, the selection of sea pine trees is considered strategic due to their ability to absorb carbon and withstand sea winds. With a planting pattern of 2x2 meters, 50,000 seedlings will occupy an area of 20 hectares, potentially absorbing up to 99.9 kg of CO₂ equivalent.
This action, he continued, is also part of BNI's long-term steps toward the net zero emission target by 2060. "This is BNI's contribution in inviting all elements of society to care about the future of the earth. We want every step BNI takes to have a positive impact, both for customers and the surrounding environment," he added.
Support also came from the Rumah Madani Indonesia Foundation, an implementing partner. The foundation's chairman, Wahyu Panca Hidayat, stated that the presence of sea pines on Tiris Beach is crucial in preventing abrasion and protecting the local ecosystem.
"These sea pine trees not only protect the coastline but also protect farmers' ponds from the threat of seawater intrusion. If these trees grow well, the economic impact will also be significant," said Wahyu.
He added that the presence of sea pine trees on Tiris Beach also has the potential to increase tourism appeal, which in turn could boost the local economy. "We hope that BNI can pioneer this green movement and inspire others to take similar action," he said.
In line with the spirit of 'Accompanying Your Every Step', BNI not only implements environmental preservation actions but also presents various initiatives that have a real impact on people's lives.
