(02/10/2025) - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, is strengthening its commitment to social responsibility by presenting a program that synergizes environmental preservation and community economic development. Through the BNI Berbagi program, the company supports infrastructure development based on local potential in Ponggok Village, Polanharjo Sub-Regency, Klaten, Central Java.
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo emphasized that this initiative is part of the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) Program designed to provide long-term benefits.
"BNI aims to be more involved with the community through concrete support that will have a long-term impact, both on the environment and the local economy. Ponggok Village was chosen because it has significant potential to be developed into a tourism hub and a water-based economy," Okki said in a written statement.
This program is implemented collaboratively with the community, local government, and strategic partners, including the Tirta Mandiri Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes). Through this collaboration, BNI supports three main developments: the Ponggok Paradiso multi-purpose facility, the construction of a tourist lodge, and a local drinking water treatment business unit.
Ponggok Paradiso, with its swimming pool and meeting hall, is expected to be an additional attraction, complementing the Umbul Ponggok tourist icon. With these facilities, the village can reach a wider tourist segment, from families to companies.
Meanwhile, tourist cottages are being prepared for accommodation and meeting rooms, enabling Ponggok Village to develop from a short-stay destination into an overnight destination. This is expected to increase tourists' length of stay and increase their spending in the village.
On the other hand, a local drinking water treatment unit is leveraging the potential of the Ponggok spring water for sustainable commercial product. Beside creating a new source of income for the village-owned enterprise (BUMDes), this venture also creates jobs that directly benefit the local community.
BNI ensures that the implementation of its CSR program consistently involves residents in the management of business units and facilities, fostering a sense of ownership and shared responsibility. This support is aimed at ensuring that Ponggok's natural resources are managed wisely so that the resulting economic value does not compromise environmental sustainability.
"BNI believes that empowering the local economy is key to creating community independence. Through this collaboration, we aim to encourage Ponggok Village to become a successful example of how natural resources can be transformed into a sustainable economic resource while preserving the environment," Okki concluded.
With these initiatives, BNI demonstrates its commitment not only to business development but also to community empowerment and environmental preservation. The program's presence in Ponggok Village is expected to serve as a model for synergy between natural resources, tourism, and a sustainable community economy.
