BNI wins Green Warrior Award at ESG Now Awards 2025

(18/10/2025) - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI won the Green Warrior Award at the ESG Now Awards 2025. This award was given for BNI's success in implementing the Fishermen Welfare Improvement Program through Mangrove Forest Regeneration in Pangpang Bay, Banyuwangi, which is one of the company's flagship initiatives in the field of the environment and coastal community empowerment.

This program involves a local hero, M. Saeroni, who plays a key role in empowering coastal communities through mangrove conservation. This initiative is a tangible manifestation of the collaboration between BNI, local communities, local governments, and strategic partners to create sustainable social and environmental impact.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the award. “This award is clear evidence of BNI's commitment to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into every aspect of the company's activities, especially in supporting environmental conservation and improving community welfare,” he said in a written statement.

Okki added that this achievement motivates BNI to continue strengthening the implementation of sustainability programs that have a direct impact on society and the environment.

“BNI will continue to strengthen the implementation of sustainability initiatives that not only focus on nature conservation, but also promote the economic welfare of the surrounding community,” he added.

Through its Social and Environmental Responsibility Program (TJSL) – BNI Berbagi, BNI actively promotes various green initiatives in various regions of Indonesia. Cross-party collaboration is key to BNI's success in strengthening the sustainability ecosystem, especially in coastal areas.

The mangrove regeneration program in Pangpang Bay not only contributes to coastal ecosystem restoration, but also provides tangible economic benefits to the community. Mangrove ecosystems are important habitats for various marine species and endemic birds, and help increase fishermen's catches by improving water quality. As such, mangrove conservation supports the creation of a sustainable coastal economy.

In parallel with mangrove planting and maintenance activities, BNI also builds community support facilities such as clean water facilities, worship facilities, and public toilets around the conservation area. These efforts not only improve the quality of life of the community, but also encourage the development of nature-based ecotourism.

BNI also strengthens the organizational capacity of Community Monitoring Groups (Pokmaswas) through training in community-based conservation and tourism management, so that mangrove conservation activities can be managed independently and sustainably by local communities.

"Going forward, BNI is committed to expanding its support for other green projects, including renewable energy development, energy efficiency, and environmentally friendly financing. We want to be part of the solution for a greener and more sustainable future for Indonesia," Okki concluded.

This achievement reinforces BNI's position as one of the pioneers of national banking that consistently integrates ESG principles into its business strategy. Through various sustainable initiatives, BNI continues to strive to be a catalyst for positive change towards an inclusive and resilient green economy in Indonesia.
