In Support of Earth Hour, BNI Strengthens Low-Emission Operations and Energy Efficiency

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI strengthens its commitment to sustainability practices by intensifying various energy efficiency and carbon emission reduction initiatives, in line with the global momentum of Earth Hour 2026.

As part of its participation in the campaign, BNI will simultaneously turn off the lights in all operational offices on Saturday, March 28, 2026. This step is a symbol and part of the company's real efforts to support low-emission operations.

BNI Deputy President Director Alexandra Askandar said that the Earth Hour momentum was used to strengthen the company's commitment to implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

"The Earth Hour momentum is part of BNI's real contribution to supporting energy efficiency while preserving the environment," Alexandra said in a written statement.

Alexandra further explained that BNI consistently implements various energy efficiency programs in its daily operations. One of these is a policy of turning off office lights for one hour every day during break time, between 12:00 and 1:00 PM.

On the other hand, BNI is also working to reduce emissions from operational activities by reducing business travel and optimizing the use of long-distance communication technologies, such as teleconferencing.

In building management, the company continues to optimize the use of energy-efficient lighting in several key offices, including Grha BNI Sudirman, Plaza BNI BSD, Gedoeng BNI Jakarta Kota, Gedung BNI PIK 2, and Menara BNI Pejompongan. Furthermore, the operation of the air conditioning system (chiller) is also reduced on weekends to improve energy efficiency.

BNI has also adopted magnetic bearing technology in the cooling systems of several buildings to reduce mechanical friction and increase energy efficiency. This effort is complemented by the use of renewable energy through the installation of solar panels in several locations.

Currently, BNI has installed solar panels with a total capacity of 3,040 watts at Plaza BNI BSD and 419 solar panels with an installed capacity of 230 kW at the BNI PIK 2 Building.

In addition, the principles of environmentally friendly buildings are also applied to a number of facilities, such as the Menara BNI Pejompongan, BNI BSD Plaza, and the BNI PIK 2 Building area, as part of the transformation towards more sustainable operations.

"BNI will continue to strengthen various sustainable initiatives as part of its corporate responsibility to the environment, society, and all stakeholders," Alexandra emphasized.

Through these various steps, BNI emphasizes its role as a financial institution that focuses not only on business performance, but also on creating long-term value through sustainable financial practices.

This commitment demonstrates that efforts towards a low-carbon economy are not only carried out through green financing, but also through consistent operational transformation that is more efficient and environmentally friendly.
