BNI dan Torajamelo Mengangkat Tenun Tradisional Toraja

BNI and Torajamelo Lifting Toraja Traditional Weaving

North Toraja, Saturday, February 20, 2016 - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk and Torajamelo has collaborated since 2012 in the cultural development of Toraja traditional weaving to improve the welfare of women weavers in rural areas of Indonesia, as well as to preserve the art and culture of weaving especially in Tana Toraja.

The cooperation was first initiated through BNI CSR program to help organize communities in Toraja, including through the provision of micro finance aid. BNI also provided marketing support for weavers, and participated in various domestically and overseas events to help promote the products.

In 2015, with the help of BNI, Torajamelo has gathered and superviseda group of weavers from Sa'dan, North Toraja, and encouraged the establishment of a Multipurpose Business Cooperative (KSU) called Sa'dan Siangkaran (Sa'danof mutual support), managed by women weavers of Toraja. Thegroup mentoring program celebrated its establishment and success with a feast hosted at Perkampungan Penenun To'Barana, Sa'dan district, North Toraja. The event included a photo exhibition, textile exhibition, weaving competition to find the best tenun garment, and fashion shows made from garments created by the weavers.

Kampoeng BNI has now overseen more than twenty communities, one of which is engaged in creative industries. The list also includes KBNI crafts people who are now BNI SME debtors.

BNI continues to be committed to CSR programs that are focused on cultural development and preservation, in addition to currently ongoing BNI Go Green and BNI Berbagi (disaster relief response, education, health etc.) programs.
