Minister Teten Praises BNI's MSME Training & Financing Program

Jakarta, 14 May 2022 -- The Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises assesses that BNI's programs in assisting and increasing capacity and capability with financing are very helpful in accelerating the performance of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Moreover, during this year's economic recovery, there are many business opportunities that should be answered quickly.

Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki appreciated the efforts of PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI (stock code: BBNI) which played an active role in encouraging MSMEs through collaborative training and financing programs.

He even hopes that BNI's proactive and innovative program needs to be imitated by other banks, especially People's Business Credit (KUR) distributors so that MSMEs can develop more easily and be more sustainable as the backbone of the economy.

BNI program that supports MSMEs through the provision of sustainable financing and training is very much needed by our MSMEs. This is a program that needs to be imitated by banks distributing People’s Credit for MSMEs," he mentioned.

Teten said that the current government continues to present a business ecosystem to encourage MSMEs to promote class. One of them is access to financing.

Bank credit is targeted to be gradually increased to 30% in 2024, from the current 20%. However, there are still many who are not bankable.

"Therefore, access to financing for MSMEs requires continuous assistance so that they can develop their business models so that they can take advantage of access to financing to improve their quality and production capacity," he explained.

BNI MSME Business Director Muhammad Iqbal said that in the midst of the pandemic, BNI managed to focus on helping MSMEs and making achievements.

Throughout the first quarter of 2021, BNI's MSME loan portfolio grew positively by Rp. 115.3 trillion, which touched more than 400,000 MSME players. As for growth is driven by the recovery of the Indonesian economy after the pandemic.

This further shows that BNI is focused on financing MSMEs in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, in the future BNI will support MSME actors to be more productive through mentoring MSMEs and sustainable financing support.

In the meantime, the proportion of BNI MSME loans as of October 2021 was dominated by the small credit segment, which was 63.7% or Rp. 73.7 trillion, followed by the medium segment at 35.6% or Rp. 41.2 trillion and Micro Credit at 0.8% or Rp. 0.9 trillion. He conveyed that BNI really believes in the capacity of the country's MSME players, which are currently growing.

"We also provide Xpora Training & Financing to support MSMEs so that they are more familiar with exports, especially since international trade is growing, which makes BNI confident," he said.

Iqbal explained that BNI MSME Credit managed to contribute 10.3% of the total National MSME Credit as of October 2021 related to market share. This makes MSMEs another important issue that must also be given attention in the G20 Presidency.
