PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI, through the Xpora Program, displays the excellence of the archipelago's coffee at the Specialty Coffee Expo (SCE) 2025 in Houston, Texas, United States. PT Alko Sumatra Kopi was one of the participants brought by BNI Xpora at the prestigious event.
SCE 2025 took place at the Brown Convention Center, Houston, Texas, United States on April 25-27, 2025. A total of 649 participants were present, including coffee farmers, roasters, exporters, importers, baristas, researchers, and retailers.
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said BNI's presence in bringing Alko Sumatra Kopi to the international event was part of BNI's commitment to support local businesses to reach the global market.
“This momentum is a strategic stage for Indonesia to strengthen the image and competitiveness of local coffee in the North American and global premium markets,” Okki said in a written statement.
PT Alko Sumatra Kopi was established in 2014 and is headquartered in Gunung Tujuh, Kerinci, Jambi. Alko has fostered hundreds of farmers in more than 20 villages.
At the event, Alko managed to clinch several export deals, including a customer from Dubai who expressed interest in buying robusta coffee. Meanwhile, a roastery in Houston, Texas, agreed to buy Alko coffee. In addition, there was also an existing buyer who requested additional supply until December 2025. The estimated transaction value reached USD 4 million.
Alko CEO Suryono said that its coffee cultivation does not encroach on protected forest areas. In addition, Alko also adopts blockchain-based traceability technology for supply chain transparency, allowing consumers to trace the origin of coffee through scanning QR codes.
“This innovation increases international market confidence in Indonesian coffee,” he said.
BNI Xpora through the Go Global pillar provides access to local MSMEs to reach the international market. This step also emphasizes BNI's role not only as a financial institution, but also as an accelerator for the growth of local business actors to be able to compete and grow in the global arena.
