PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI held a beach clean-up at Mertasari Beach, Bali, together with the community and various stakeholders as a manifestation of its commitment to preserving the coastal environment. The activity, which took place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, involved around 200 volunteers from the community, students, environmental groups, and officials from Sanur Kauh Village.
The action, entitled BERANI Bersih Pantai Mertasari (DARE to Clean Mertasari Beach), is part of BNI's support for sustainable environmental management, as well as welcoming the commemoration of National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN), which is celebrated every February 21. Several parties were involved, including the Head of Sanur Kauh Village, I Made Ada, along with his staff, the Chair of TPS3R Sekar Tanjung, I Wayan Merta, and the Founder of the Malu Dong Community, Komang Sudiarta.
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said that the activity not only focused on cleaning up the beach, but also aimed to foster collective awareness of the importance of protecting the environment as the foundation for economic sustainability and community welfare.
“This activity reflects a shared awareness that environmental sustainability is an important foundation for economic sustainability and community welfare. The challenge of waste management cannot be solved by one party alone, but requires strong collaboration between the government, the business world, communities, and the public,” Okki said in a written statement.
According to Okki, Bali plays a strategic role as a national and international tourist destination, so environmental cleanliness, especially in coastal areas, must be maintained consistently. These efforts are considered a long-term investment for the sustainability of tourism and the regional economy.
“Protecting the earth is no longer a choice, but a necessity. Coastal cleanliness is an important part of maintaining Bali's image and competitiveness in tourism,” he continued.
In practice, volunteers worked together to clean up waste along Mertasari Beach. In addition to the beach cleanup, BNI also distributed waste management equipment to the Sekar Tanjung TPS3R in the form of waste shredders and plastic press machines. This assistance is expected to increase waste processing capacity and encourage economic added value from community-based waste management.
“BNI's commitment to preserving the environment is part of implementing good and sustainable corporate governance. The company encourages business growth to go hand in hand with social responsibility and concern for the environment,” Okki emphasized.
Through the BNI Go Green program and various other sustainability initiatives, BNI continues to encourage collaboration in waste management, environmental education, and community assistance. These efforts are expected to create a positive and sustainable impact on the environment and society, especially in coastal areas.
